Q & A

Deb cook 08/01/25
Hi can these waterproof panels be placed over existing bathroom tiles or do we need to remove these first beforehand? Our Advice

Hi Deb The panels can be glued straight over existing tiles. It is important to check all tiles are fully adhered to the wall and none and are loose or cracked. Kind Regards Walls and Floors

could i apply the waterproof panels onto excisting gloss tiles i have on my bathroom walls Our Advice

Hi Roseanne, Yes, they can go straight over existing tiles. 1. Clean the Surface: Ensure the tiles are clean and free of any grease, dirt, or debris. This helps the adhesive bond properly. 2. Check for Flatness: Verify that the tile surface is even. If there are any uneven areas or damaged tiles, they should be repaired or leveled before installation. 3. Use Appropriate Adhesive: Select a high-quality adhesive suitable for both polystyrene and tiles. Construction adhesive or panel adhesive often works well. 4. Apply Adhesive: Apply the adhesive to the back of the panels according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically in a zigzag or dot pattern for even distribution. 5. Position the Panels: Press the polystyrene panels firmly onto the tiled surface, ensuring they are properly aligned and level. 6. Secure the Panels: If needed, use temporary supports or clamps to hold the panels in place until the adhesive sets. 7. Seal the Edges: Use caulk or sealant around the edges and joints to ensure a watertight seal. It’s always a good idea to consult the installation guidelines provided by the manufacturer of the polystyrene composite panels, as they may have specific recommendations or requirements for adhering the panels over tiled surfaces. Kind Regards, Walls and Floors.

Given the slat profile, are there any clever tricks to seal the bottom edge with the sealant. Not sure how to make it look neat in the small black grooves. Normally you would use a smoothing tool. Our Advice

Hi Ed, Thank you for your query. We recommend using Mapei Ultracare Smooth Silicone for the best finish on the grooved edges. Simply spray the silicone with the solution and use your finger to take off any excess, this will leave you with a smooth finish. Kind Regards, Walls and Floors.

If the edge is to be visible, what colour will it be?Our Advice

Hi There, The edge will be white, so you will need to use a black silicone sealant to cover this. Kind Regards, Walls and Floors.

Hi can these be used in a shower? are they actually waterproof? Our Advice
