So, whether you’re updating an existing fencing setup or building a brand new garden fence, this guide will walk you through how to cut composite fence panels safely and efficiently.

You Will Need:
- Electric saw suitable for cutting timber
- Mitre Saw/Angle Grinder/Hacksaw/Jigsaw for aluminium U-channel
- Pen to mark slats
- Tape measure
- PPE (Protective eyewear, gloves, etc)
- Stable surface
- LuxeLine® fence panels
Step 1 – Preparation
Before you get started, it’s important to stay safe. We always recommend wearing PPE, such as protective eyewear, gloves, and hearing protection, to protect yourself from any potential splinters or debris. Find a flat, stable surface where you can rest your fence slats and U channel securely while you work.
Step 2 – Measure Up
Next, measure the distance between your two final fence posts. When measuring your slats, be sure to take away approximately 1 millimetre from your measurement – this helps allow for any natural contraction or expansion that may occur during extreme temperature changes. Once you’ve got your measurement, transfer it onto your slats and U channel using a pencil or marker.
Step 3 – Time to Cut
Place your slat/U channel firmly onto your stable work surface. For you slats, using an electric saw that’s suitable for timber applications, carefully cut along the marked line. Take your time here to ensure a clean and accurate cut. For your U channel, use one of the following to cut: Mitre Saw, Angle Grinder, Hacksaw, Jigsaw. Thanks to aluminium’s softness, it’s super easy to cut! Place your channel on a stable surface and clamp it down to avoid movement. Use a metal file to deburr the edges, avoiding injury from sharp pieces. Safely dispose of any offcuts of your slats/ U channel to avoid future injury.
Step 4 – Install Your Slats
Once cut, your slats are ready to go! Thanks to the clever, easy-to-install design of LuxeLine® fencing, your trimmed slats can be installed just like the rest. Simply follow our How to Install Composite Fencing guide to finish off your garden seamlessly.
